This is an interesting article (editorial though, I think). People who actually live in the States will be able to say whether the media reporting has really changed as much as the author thinks. (Oh you can give your own opinion at the end of the article too)
And here’s one showing UK citizens are complaining about the lack of response from our own government too! 🙂

ETA: And to rant on another subject for a change – I wish our government would get its act together and ban smoking in public properly. Some survey or other reckons that if smoking is only banned in pubs that sell food, lots of pubs are going to stop serving food – exact figures: an increase from 29% not serving food to 40% not serving food. Whilst this may do wonders for household food budgets as people will have to eat at home instead, it’s not helping anyone quit smoking, or protecting the health of pub staff! If people must smoke, let them smoke at home where they can only harm a limited number of others, or let there be special smokers’ restaurants like there are special non-smoking restaurants here. (Mcdonalds and Starbucks, in case you were wondering. Yes, that’s all)
Here’s what the government are doing currently:
“As consultation on a partial ban ends, ministers are launching a campaign warning of second-hand smoke dangers. […] Government plans would still allow smoking in food-free pubs.” (see for full article)
Talk about double standards!!!!
