Welcome to Baking, Crafting, Thinking!

on January 2, 2013

Happy 2013!

I’m going to try and write more this year. Maybe even *gasp* once a week. I know, right? Once a month would be an improvement over 2012 though, so let’s not get too excited.

Quick run-down for any new readers: Hi, I’m Mika (Mee-ka), British expat stay-at-home mother-of-two. I love children’s books and rhymes, languages, crafts and baking. This should make me an ideal expat mum. However, I dislike cleaning, tidying, teaching and having to say the same thing over and over again. And I’m impatient, and lazy. And I suffer from perfectionism, of the “if I can’t do it right I don’t want to do it at all” variety. I also have a problem with starting things but not finishing them. (Anyone know the name for this?)

Topics you can expect to see posts about this year, and possibly previously if you look in the sidebar word-cloud:
crafts, baking, Christianity, miscarriage, human rights and fair trade, living in Switzerland, Haiti.
Also Advent and Lent. I love Advent and am trying to make a bigger deal of Lent.

I’ve been blogging in various places since 2005 or thereabouts, so posts on here go back a long way. The very earliest ones are mostly set as private though. I will be going through them at some point and opening up any I think useful – feel free to leave a comment if you see one you think should be public and isn’t.

Finally, an introduction of the important people featuring on this blog:

Froglet is seven and very energetic. Like most boys, he loves Lego, vehicles of all descriptions, football (soccer), Star Wars, making stuff, reading and, well, pretty much everything, actually. Perhaps unlike other boys, he wants ten more siblings. Sorry son, not going to happen! Clearly he hasn’t been put off by little sister Nutmeg, who is nearly four. I should probably specify that those are not my children’s real names, just in case anyone was worried. Nutmeg loves pink, dancing, pretty dresses, jewellery and… um, everything Froglet likes. Including Star Wars.
And last but definitely not least, there’s The Engineer, who doesn’t do blogging, but is a fantastic father and husband.

So there you are. Hope you enjoy reading!
